Community Forum Brings Many Together
A report on the Community Forum on the Ohio Theatre
by Robin Rothstein
On
the evening of April 26, the Community Forum on the Ohio Theater
convened before a nearly-packed house at the Ohio Theatre in Soho.
Co-sponsored by the Innovative Theatre Foundation (ITF) and the League
of Independent Theater (LIT), the forum was organized in response to
the imminent closing of this venerable downtown institution. The Ohio
Theater is being forced by its landlord to vacate its Wooster Street
space on August 31, 2010, to make room for a designer label store in an
area already over-saturated with high-end retail.

Always direct people to your company website! Even if you are using an outside ticket vendor (such as theatermania or brownpapertickets), have audiences go to your website FIRST! Make sure your website it updated with the show information and a direct link to ticket purchasing page. Include your website on postcards, in listings, in your press releases, in your promotional material. Audiences are more likely
to purchase a ticket if they learn something about the people behind
the show, it might also spur an impromptu donation you weren't
expecting. Plus if you have bugs to Facebook and Twitter you might add
a follower or two.

Write to your state Legislator and let them know how important the arts are to you and your community. (check out the Community Action page to find your elected officials.)
Tax Abatement Proposal that benefits OOB All 12 Manhattan Community Boards have voted to support the tax abatement proposal
that will give a tax credit to landlords who provide either free or
significantly discounted rent to not-for-profit arts organizations. Learn more.
It's
an achievement that this proposal has reached this level of success and
demonstrates the vital grassroots support that exists for this
particular idea. However, in order for this proposal to be enacted
into law, it needs support of the other four NYC Boroughs.
Money for arts complex in Lower Manhattan At
a recent meeting Community Board 1 and board member of the Lower
Manhattan Development Corporation, Julie Menin, revealed that $150
million in unused funds for downtown had been discovered. She proposed
the money be used to immediately build a performing arts center on the
Deutsche Bank site. Read more about it...

Human Flight Productions (FUCT)
by Christopher Borg
Lady Circus, Gramily Entertainment & FUCT's production of Cirque du Quoi?! Human Flight Productions, nominated last year for Outstanding Performance Art production for their piece, Cirque du Quoi?!
along with Gramily Entertainment, is always keeping audiences on their
toes, or in some cases, off their toes, off the floor, on their backs,
or in a number of interesting combinations. Most famous for their legendary comedy show called FUCT,
their productions follow their own unique formula of comedy, monologue,
games, stunts, live music and a lot of audience participation. Human Flight Productions began in 2002 as a group students performing underground theatre at midnight. By 2004 FUCT
premiered to the world at the Rattlestick Theatre, thrusting the troupe
of players onto the New York Indie Theatre comedy scene. Since
that first public performance, the troupe has conceived and produced
multiple original, full-length shows and has appeared at Carolines,
Joe's Pub, The Broadway Comedy Club, Upright Citizen's Brigade and over
a dozen comedy and sketch festivals. On Friday, May 14th at 10:30pm, this energetic and magnetic group is holding the launch party for FUCT's new Website at The Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. In collaboration with Black Apple's BLACKOUT, FUCT
will host the party, which promises, music, comedy, aerial burlesque,
performance art, games and, of course, audience participation as well
as introducing their new web series. Music performances will include
Black Taxi, The Frontier Brothers and Black Suit Youth and after hours
will present Lady Circus performing with DJ Small Change. For tickets and more information | | ____________________ THE IT AWARDS ARE SPONSORED BY NYC's professional Playbill & Audience building resource Providing Marketing and Public Relations The Actor's Resource | ____________________
